Julietta Curenton and Jordan Dodson return to the Five Fridays stage, following their acclaimed performance together in February 2014.
Since 2011 the Five Fridays series has raised funds to benefit two local organizations that combat hunger and homelessness in NW Philadelphia. Thanks to support from generous sponsors and concert-goers, all net proceeds from the series will be shared between Face to Face Germantown and Family Promise of Philadelphia (formerly Philadelphia Interfaith Hospitality Network).
A reception to meet the artists will follow the concert.

THE ARTISTS
JULIETTA CURENTON
Julietta Curenton is the newly appointed Assistant Professor of Flute at Shenandoah Conservatory in Winchester, Virginia. Ms. Curenton’s solo pursuits include commissioning women and African American composers to write new, innovative and accessible works for the flute which have been featured on New York’s WQXR Young Artists Showcase, Philadelphia’s WRTI’s Performance Studio and her debut album entitled “Harambee: The Power of Sisterhood.”
She has collaborated extensively with acclaimed groups such as the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra, Imani Winds, The Ritz Chamber Players, Baltimore Symphony, Soulful Symphony and the American Composers Orchestra. Highlights of the 22-23 season include Curenton’s return to the Philadelphia Chamber Music Society alongside JACK Quartet; New York premiere of Dr. James Lee’s concerto, “Niiji Memories” with the Stony Brook Symphony Orchestra; Mike Mower’s concerto with the Shenandoah Wind Ensemble and a host of performances with The National Philharmonic. JORDAN DODSON
Jordan Dodson, described by Performance Today as “one of the top young guitarists of his generation,” is a musician and educator. A passionate advocate of contemporary music, Dodson has given the premiere of hundreds of new works. In 2013 he was the first guitarist to graduate from the Curtis Institute of Music’s new guitar program. In the same year he won Astral Artists’ National Auditions and was selected to be Young Artist in Residence on American Public Media.
He recently appeared as soloist with the Chamber Orchestra of Philadelphia with the premiere of Andrea Clearfield’s new concerto, Glow. He plays in the Metropolis Ensemble and the New York City Guitar Quartet, and frequently collaborates with the International Contemporary Ensemble, Curtis on Tour, the American Modern Opera Company, Jupiter Symphony Chamber Players, and Contemporaneous.
Dodson has appeared on several commercially available recordings including Jason Eckardt’s Subject. His most recent recordings are Elliot Cole’s Nightflower and Journals, vol. 1. As collaborator with American Modern Opera Company, he has helped create the guitar part for a new arrangement of John Adams’ El Niño, which will receive its premiere in France in 2024.
Originally from Columbus, Ohio, Dodson is on faculty at Ezra Guitar and The Smith School in New York City. He holds degrees from the Curtis Institute of Music, the Manhattan School of Music, and the University of Cincinnati, and his teachers have included Clare Callahan, David Starobin, and Jason Vieaux.
