Organ Recitals in 2026-2027

St. Paul’s Church is delighted to announce the completion of a four-year (2020-24) renovation and rebuild of its landmark Aeolian-Skinner Organ. The project was undertaken by Stephen Russell & Co., Organ Builders, with the guidance of consultant Dr. John Schwandt and St. Paul’s Organist Dr. Andrew Kotylo.

Parts of the original Skinner (1929) organ were retained, and much of the Aeolian-Skinner (1956/1958) successor instrument was removed and returned after extensive cleaning and restoration. Additional ranks have been added to fill out the overall tonal scheme, reduce the dependence on digital voices, and compensate for the church’s acoustic idiosyncracies. Added chancel pipework remains faithful to the original architectural concept, and a stunning addition to the rear gallery features a Trompette-en-Chamade and an open wood stop. Internal layouts are redesigned for better access and tuning, and a state-of-the art electronic control system has been installed. A new moveable console completes the ambitious project.

The project was funded by a generous donor gift, with additional support from The Ann Stookey Fund for Music at St. Paul’s.  A series of four concerts took place during the 2024-2025 season to showcase what must now be considered one of the finest organs in the Philadelphia region, being used as a concert instrument and in support of congregational and choral singing at worship.

In this video Rich Spotts and Andy Kotylo discuss the spectacular capabilities of the St. Paul’s organ following its 2024 restoration and enlargement.
