Summer Book Club

Would you like to do some reading and thinking in the company of friends from St. Paul’s? We are assessing interest in a summer book club that would read Marilynne Robinson’s new book, Reading Genesis. Robinson is a Pulitzer-prize winning novelist, and her stories offer deep explorations of the spiritual. In Reading Genesis (already a New York Times bestseller), she offers something different: a lyrical interpretative dive into the stories of the Book of Genesis.

Rowan Williams, the former Archbishop of Canterbury, deems the book “A brilliantly fresh reading of familiar stories, highlighting both the small details we might miss and the large-scale shifts in understanding that the storytelling represents . . . [Reading Genesis] invites us to take time in reading the stories again, in the company of an exceptionally wise and perceptive storyteller, one of the foremost novelists today in the English language . . . a work of exceptional wisdom and imagination, a real model of how to read the biblical text with the eyes of an adult faith.”

If you would be interested in joining a group to read this together, please contact either Jonathan Nidock (jonathan2n@aol.com) or Kristen Poole (kpoole36@gmail.com). The first meeting will be Sunday, June 23 at 9am in the Dixon House Library. All following meetings through the summer will be on Sundays from 9:45am-11:00am in the Dixon House Library.
