Adult Education Forum 12/8/24: Bach’s Magnificat: History, Music, and Meaning
Join us in the Dixon House Library at 10:00am. In this two-part series, Richard Wattenbarger will discuss Johann Sebastian Bach’s Magnificat in D, BWV 243. We’ll explore the context in which Bach composed and performed the Magnificat, the contexts in which we hear it today, the music, and some questions we can ask about its meaning.
Richard holds a Ph.D. in historical musicology from the University of Minnesota. He has taught at LaSalle University and Temple University, and he has written and spoken to both academic and lay audiences on topics including Mozart, Richard Strauss, and Gustav Mahler.
