Baptisms
The Sacrament of Baptism is being received into the household of God. Baptisms are most often held during Sunday worship so as to have the “household” present. In the Episcopal Church, Baptism is the entry rite into the Christian life. Each candidate is sponsored by one or more baptized persons. The baptized vow to grow in the Christian faith and life in the community of the church, which is the Body of Christ. The church vows to support baptized people in their life in Christ. Candidates of all ages are baptized.
When planning a baptism, clergy like to visit with the family ahead of time to record information, go over the worship service, and answer any questions there might be. Scheduling a baptism can be whenever family and friends can be present. The church does not celebrate baptisms during Lent. The Great Vigil of Easter (right after Lent) is a wonderful time for baptism as are the day of Pentecost, the Sunday after All Saints’ Day and on the First Sunday after the Epiphany when we celebrate the Baptism of our Lord. Weddings
In the Christian faith, marriage is the covenant between two people entered into before God in the Church. Weddings traditionally take place in the presence of Christian witnesses and invited guests in the presence of God in the St. Paul’s Church.
Marriage is a sacramental institution, given to us by God for our mutual joy and is the visible sign of the mystery of the union of love between Christ and the Church – a sign of gracious, sacrificing, faithful love. It is a lifelong commitment by two people to love, honor and cherish one another through life in faithfulness and true godliness. At Saint Paul’s, marriage is open to all, regardless of sexual orientation. At least one person, bride or groom, must be a baptized Christian.
Funerals
As Christians, we live in the hope and reality that nothing can separate us from the love of God in Jesus Christ – nothing in life; nothing in death. Still, one of the hardest things we face in this life is the death of a loved one.
The clergy, staff, and pastoral care team at St. Paul’s offer their caring support and expertise to individuals and families through those difficult days. Our love and care begins with helping to plan the service to celebrate your loved one’s life and continues afterward to help support you during the grieving process. A booklet is available to you for the purpose of documenting your desired information for your loved ones. The booklet also includes St. Paul’s fee schedule.
