Rogation Day Tree Tour – May 21

Rogation Day, Sunday, May 21, is a day of prayer in the spring for a good harvest in the fall. The day is known for processions around the parish, giving rise to our festival tour of trees at 4 p.m. This will be a self-guided tour complete with map and explanations of all the trees — over twenty varieties! Pick up your guide at the Chestnut Hill Avenue exit and walk along the drive toward Bethlehem Pike and Cooke Park. Along the way, discover and learn about the trees, the Dag Hammarskjöld memorial, gospel passages about the growing seed and the mustard seed, all the way to Cooke Park where the tour ends at the Celtic Cross and a closing meditation by the Anglican Mystic Thomas Traherne (1637-1674), “you never enjoy the world aright, till you so love the beauty of enjoying it, that you are covetous and earnest to persuade others to enjoy it… It is a Paradise of God.”
